RNA interference (RNAi)
A natural pathway cells use to silence genes by destroying matching messenger RNA.
RNA interference is a natural regulatory pathway in which short double stranded RNAs direct the destruction of complementary messenger RNA, switching specific genes off.
Its discovery was recognised with a Nobel Prize in 2006 and it underpins the entire class of siRNA medicines.
